John Pettigrew’s National Grid wants 83 GW of Offshore Wind Farms by 2050!

That would mean 27,676 km² of occupied seabed, sprouting 11,832 Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs).

Urban dwellers are, in the main, those who regard WTGs as ‘Majestic Monuments’ of a technology for free, green electricity. Near-coast location of offshore wind farms would be their preference.

With a lifespan of of 25 years, by 2050, the first wind farms reach end-of-life, and need to be decommissioned; new wind farms have to be built to take their place.

So what would this ‘continuous cycle’ look like in the space of a lifetime?

What is the environmental impact of Offshore Wind Farms?
